Niko

Niko is a bright, bouncy and affectionate 14‑month‑old cocker spaniel who loves people, enjoys other dogs and thrives on training, activity and companionship. He’s fully toilet trained, happy being left for short periods, travels well and has settled beautifully in foster. Niko is strong, lively and still learning his manners, so he needs an active home committed to ongoing training, mental stimulation and helping him grow into a calm, confident adult. He could live with older dog‑savvy children or an older, sensible dog, and would flourish with scentwork or gundog‑style activities. If you can offer this loving boy the structure and guidance he needs, he’ll reward you with endless enthusiasm, cuddles and joy.

About Niko

⚡️ 𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗼’𝘀 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆

Niko is a 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴, 𝗯𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝘆, 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗯𝗼𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗮𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗳𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝘆 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗴𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 𝗮 𝗻𝗲𝘄𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗻. In foster he has been a very happy, loving dog — settled when left for short periods, good in the car, and delighted by his walks.

He loves people, loves dogs, and loves life. He enjoys using his brain, responds well to training, and at the end of the day is happiest snuggled up with his humans. He will chase squirrels, but ignored a deer and has shown little interest in livestock.

🏡 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘄 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲.

Niko came from a busy young family who felt unable to give him the time and training he needed. 𝗧𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿, 𝗵𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗯𝗲𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗻 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗹𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲.

🐾 𝗘𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘀

Niko’s walks had been reduced in his previous home, so he initially pulled a lot and was very strong. With regular walks and consistent training, he is learning the basics of loose‑lead walking. This has helped him settle at home, but 𝗵𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆, 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 — 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂’𝗱 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗮𝘁 𝟭𝟰 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘀.

👦 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻

Niko has lived with young children but is a big, bouncy puppy. 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗯𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝘀𝘂𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝗹𝗱𝗲𝗿, 𝗱𝗼𝗴‑𝘀𝗮𝘃𝘃𝘆 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱‑𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲. He loves meeting children and has learned to sit calmly for strokes.

Niko previously lived with young children, but his playful, lively nature became too much for them. In foster, he hasn’t lived with children, but he has met them out and about — friendly, bouncy and excited as he is with everyone. His fosterers have taught him to sit calmly and wait for fuss, which he does beautifully.

🐶 𝗔𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗼𝗴𝘀

Niko is playful, friendly and confident with other dogs. With young dogs he can become overstimulated, but with older dogs he respects boundaries and settles well. He could live with an older, well‑mannered dog who can help teach him calm behaviour.

Niko has lived with another young dog in foster and enjoyed the company. Both dogs occasionally became overstimulated and needed calming, but Niko showed no guarding around toys or food bowls.

He has also had time alone without the resident dog and with a visiting dog. He demonstrated that he can respect boundaries when another dog signals that playtime is over, and he settles well afterwards.

Outside the home, Niko is excited to see other dogs. If allowed to greet, he calmly sniffs and moves on when asked.

🐈‍⬛ 𝗖𝗮𝘁𝘀 - 𝗰𝗮𝗻’𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗰𝗮𝘁𝘀

Niko has never lived with a cat. When he sees them outside, he pulls and tries to chase.

🏠 𝗔𝘁 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲

Niko is fully toilet trained and will sit by the door to ask out. He sleeps all night downstairs in his bed, separate from the resident dog.

🛋️ 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗔𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲 & 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗧𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀

Niko has not used a crate in foster. He has had free rein of the home and settles well when left alone after a brief moan. He has shown no signs of separation anxiety.

🚗 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗴

Niko initially tries to jump into the front to be close to his fosterers, but once settled he travels well in both the back seat and the boot.

🐾 𝗢𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼

Niko has been happy to be brushed and groomed in foster, and has visited a professional groomer with no issues. 𝗛𝗲 𝗽𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗮 𝗰𝗼𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗿, 𝗯𝘂𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝗶𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗱 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴.

His recall is good at home and in quiet areas, but will need more work in busy environments.
He loves to play ball and will bring it back and place it in your hand. He responds very well to training using treats, praise and a ball.

🎾 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Niko has enjoyed training and has a solid foundation. He knows:

✅ Sit

✅ Down

✅ Wait

✅ Off (jumping up)

✅ Come (recall)

✅ Place

He has also enjoyed scentwork training and would thrive with more.

🏡 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗛𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗡𝗶𝗸𝗼 𝗡𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀

Niko needs an active home where he can grow from a lively puppy into a calm, confident adult. 𝗛𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗼𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗺𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗲𝗹 𝗯𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻. 𝗛𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲, 𝘀𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗲𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗲.

He will need continued training to strengthen recall and manage his chase instincts. 𝗛𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆 𝗴𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗼𝗴 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗼𝘂𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝗷𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁, 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗱𝗼𝗴.

He could live with older children or be child‑free. He could also live with an older, sensible dog who can help teach him manners.

💉 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗜𝗻𝗳𝗼.

Niko has had no health issues in our care.
He is fully vaccinated, flea & worm treated, and neutered.
