Adoption Process - Overseas Dogs

Adoption Process - Overseas Dogs

SCSR has relationships with a couple of overseas dog rescues in Spain and Greece.  We periodically advertise dogs from these rescues that require homes in the UK. Anyone interested in possibly adopting from overseas should follow this link to find out more about Mediterranean diseases.

  1. The fosterer abroad thoroughly assesses the dog and completes a Behavioural Assessment form.

  2. The full assessment is then posted on our Facebook page and website so prospective adopters can start to gain insights about the dog

  3. An online Application Form, tailored to the dog, is linked to the write-up. Applications will only be accepted via the link.

  4. All applications are reviewed and a short list drawn up (up to 3 applications) that on paper best suit the specific needs of the dog.

  5. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for a conversation to confirm that they fully appreciate the needs to the dog, if that chat goes well....

  6. A homecheck will be arranged (if not already homechecked). This may be a virtual/video call depending on Covid restrictions in place a the time. We will ask for Photo ID, proof of address, a tour of your garden, paying attention to fences and security. We will ask you to involve all household members on the call. If you live in rented accommodation we will need written permission from your landlord to owning a dog.

  7. Team then discuss applications (if the homecheck is a pass) as to which home would offer the best environment for the dog.

  8. The successful applicant is contacted to discuss adoption and next steps. The unsuccessful applicants are provided with feedback

  9. Assuming the applicant wishes to go ahead with the adoption, an adoption contract is dispatched. The adoption contract needs to be read, signed and returned to SCSR along with the adoption fee, before the dog is transported.

  10. A transport Whatapp/FB Messenger group chat will then set up and you will be kept fully informed through this group (along with other adopters on that transport) as to when the dogs leave their port of departure, right up to being collected/delivered to you.
